The current outdated logo of Santa Monica College (SMC) wordmark definitely needs a redesigned. The step used to get final design included: asking questions, doing the research, mind mapping, sketching, digital comps. The design had to represent the beachy environment and be cohensive with the school’s pirate mascot and newspaper, which is represented by a ship steering wheel. The circular motif also represents SMC the large international student attending the college. In addition, colors used are a bright yellow to represent higher learning and the bright active environment. The other color used is a blue to repreent the calm sea, as well as, a sense of confidence. The finally result has flowerlike image that represent the bloom of knowledge.
